This is Life

This is life. Every goddamned minute of it. It’s not about those “big moments” we anticipate so much that we don’t even realize when they happen. This is life. It’s loving the idea of being at work because your coworker made cookies for you and because you know no one is too serious. This is life. It’s being excited about getting paid then cooking the meal you’re craving. This is life. It’s about getting to see your best friends and sit on a park bench and talk for hours about everything and nothing. This is life. The small moments that provide so much joy that we look back upon and realize they are the big things.

There are big events in our lives but these moments that we live every single day is life. If it’s not life, then what is it? Why is it that so often we look upon these moments as a hinderance? As a hurdle to pass to get to a destination we’re not even sure we’ll reach? As things that don’t matter when in fact they’re the things that matter most? Being excited about the small things is no doubt the essence of life because we’re appreciating it- every moment. It’s not dreading the week every Sunday and hating every Monday. It’s not being upset that we have to work and then go home to cook dinner. It’s not saving up and waiting for a vacation as an “escape” only to land back in “reality” a few days later. If we view things like that, life is truly passing us by. Life is about riding the wave- whatever comes at us-then once again realizing how much the little things make us happy, how life is made up of all those little things, how this is life.
